Milford Station - May 21, 1864
After the Battle of Spotsylvania, Grant determined to turn Lee's right flank and get in between the Army of Northern Virginia and Confederate Capital in Richmond. General Hancock, commanding the Union 11th Corps, was ordered to take his force as far toward Richmond as he could advance in one day, fighting the enemy in whatever force he could find them in. Based upon this order, Hancock's objective was to get beyond the Mattapony River into a position around Milford Station and engage any enemy that might be there.
(10 pages containing 3 maps and 2 photos - $1.99 U.S.D.)
